If you enjoy reading and hearing about history, want to learn more, or find opportunities to meet others with similar interests, then you can join the Historical Association. Members receive The Historian magazine quarterly – as well as access to the full digital archive – which offers a range of accessible and enjoyable articles and features. Each edition focuses on an historical theme and showcases pieces on international and local history from specialists in their field. You can attend without charge history talks and visits year at any of the HA’s 45 local branches or listen to over 350 podcasts to enjoy anytime, anywhere, at the click of a button. So renewing memberships before the first meeting of the new season in September will be impracticable even if some members are not present. To ease the jam we are proposing the following alternatives: Firstly you could make an electronic bank transfer. This is our preferred method if you can manage it. The account to which you need to make the transfer is Essex Branch of the Historical Association, sort code 40-22-46, account number 51000349. Please make sure that, where you are asked for a reference, you put your name and forename (if an indivudal member) or names and forenames (if joining as a couple). For individuals the cost remains £15 for the year from September, for couples living at the same address it will still be £20. You can make the transfer at any time over the summer months. Or you could pay by cheque or cash at either of the final meetings of the 2025-26 season, on April 25th and May 16th. Our Treasurer, Kelvin Henes, will be at a table of receipt before and after the meetings. If neither of these methods is convenient then, as in the past, you can renew your membership at the first meeting you attend in the new season. But we do need a large number of you to renew by the two methods outlined above to ease the logjam in September. Should circumstances prevent you attending talks next season we will, of course, refund your membership. Should you be a national member of the Historical Association you can, of course, ignore the above as you have free entry to all branch meetings. To whet all your appetites the yellow trifold programmes for the 2026-27 season will be available at the final two meetings of this season.
